Hillfort is a type of fortified settlement, which was mainly intended to protect its inhabitants against various enemies. That is why these forts were built either on hills or near rivers. Our stronghold at Chotěbuz-Podobora was located on a hill, below which the river Olza was flowing. So, an excellent place for a safe settlement.

How exactly looked the hillfort at Chotěbuz-Podobora?

The highest and best defendable place within the hillfort was the so-called acropolis, where the residence of local ruler and an assembly yard for warriors were situated. The everyday life has taken place in the largest part of the hillfort, in the so-called first outer bailey. There was a wooden terrace and a sacred cultic place. You can see the reconstruction of both these building structures in the Archaeopark. The least populated area was the so-called second outer bailey in the lowest-situated part of the settlement, whose fortification probably was not finished.
